Andrei Arshavin claims that the conservative approach at Arsenal is threatening to destroy the club.

Arshavin was a record signing for the gunners in 2008 after joining for £ 15 million. Even though he was impressive in his first couple of years, Arshavin’s form fell down drastically towards the later years and he ended up leaving the club on almost a free transfer. During his four years at Arsenal, the Russian never won a major trophy and this is the case for many Arsenal playersof the last decade. The two FA Cup titles won in 2014 and 2015 have been the saving grace so far.

The club’s failure to challenge for the Premier League has been consistently criticised by the supporters. They have been calling for more spending in order to strengthen the squad. Arsenal have been in title challenging form only for certain sections of the season. This has been the case for the last decade and fans see the lack of strength in depth in the squad as a major reason. Arshavin says that the club have always been conservative in their approach and this is starting to hurt their ability to win league titles. Fans have planned a protest against the regime of Wenger ahead of the game with Norwich City this weekend.

“It's a conservative club.Over the last few years Arsenal have bought two world-class players in Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, while the goalkeeper Petr Cech has also joined. Apart from that there have not been any major changes.Arsenal have had the same head coach for a long time and he has his ideas. The whole team depends on the viewpoint of Arsene Wenger and his views towards football. I don't know if this conservatism is a hindrance,” said the Russian winger.
